Need some help?

We've put together the answers to a few questions people have asked. Hopefully, you'll find the answer to your question here. If not, please don't hesitate to send us an email here.

How does it work?
Apple created Content Blockers providing users with the ability to block certain content on web pages in Safari. Clariti uses these frameworks and a list of phrases you supply to tell Safari what should be blocked.

Does Clariti know which websites I visit?
All content blockers like Clariti cannot see what sites you visit. If you use the "Report a problem" feature you can send us a report telling us that a site is broken by one of Clariti's block rules. The report includes the website hostname, i.e. www.apple.com, but nothing beyond that. The report is completely anonymous, we don't ask for a name or email address, and we never even see your IP address.

What's the in-app purchase, "Clariti Pro"?
With the free version of Clariti you can only add up to three (3) phrases, and only in one profile (see below). Clariti Pro unlocks the ability to add thousands of phrases and multiple profiles. It's a one-time purchase. It's not a subscription.

Regardless of whether you purchase the upgrade you get all blocklist updates as and when they're available, so you're always up-to-date. The upgrade simply unlocks more phrases and the ability to switch between profiles.

What are profiles?
A profile is a set of phrases that you choose to apply in different circumstances. You might have a profile for Sport, one for Politics, and one for TV shows. If you don't want to see spoliers for your favourite TV show choose the "TV shows" profile in the app and add your TV show names to that profile's phrases. The content blocker is reloaded with those phrases. Don't want to see politics? Switch to the Politics profile.

Profiles allow you to block thousands of phrases. Set up as many profiles as you want, and choose the profile that suits your mood. The free tier - Clariti Free - only allows you one profile.

Can I move phrases between profiles?
Yes! You can even copy phrases between profiles, which makes it so easy to choose what each profile blocks.

To move a phrase, select the profile that the phrase is currently in, then go to View & Edit Phrases. Locate the phrase you want to move and swipe it to the right. You'll see a folder icon. Tap that and you'll see the move panel. Just select the destination profile and tap Move.

To copy a phrase, follow the same steps as moving it, but tap the copy icon rather than the folder icon. You'll see the copy panel. Select the destination profile and tap Copy.

In both scenarios if the phrase already exists in the destination profile, you'll see an error saying you can't perform the operation. Phrases must be unique within a profile.

What's a whitelist, and how do I whitelist a site?
If you find a website that you don't want Clariti to block content on, tap the share action button in Safari and tap the Clariti icon. The screen will tell you whether the site is going to be added or removed from the whitelist. If there's an Add button it means the site is not already in the whitelist. Tap the button to add it, and Clariti won't act on any pages in that entire domain.

Can I remove a site from the whitelist?
Yes, in two ways:
-- Use the same process as adding a site: Tap the share action button in Safari, tap the Clariti icon, then tap Remove.
-- Use the app. Go into the Sites screen and swipe the url to the left, then tap the delete icon; or tap the url and tap the Delete button in the edit panel. The content blocker will then be reloaded.

How do I tell you a website is broken by Clariti?
Simple. Go to the website in Safari and tap the share action button. It looks like a box with an arrow pointing up out of it. Then tap the Clariti icon. (If you can't see the icon, tap More, Edit Actions..., or Manage Extensions and enable Clariti. You might want to move it further up so it's easily accessible.)

When you tap the Clariti icon you'll see a button to add the site to the whitelist and a button to report a problem on the current website. Note that we do not ask you for any contact information. Problem reports are completely anonymous.

There's an option in the app to send us an email to submit feedback or just to contact us. This will obviously mean we receive your email address but we promise we'll only retain those details for as long as is required to deal with your issue/request.

How often are the blocklists updated?
As often as we find issues with them. We tend to batch updates so we release as few as possible. To get the latest updates just tap the Check for updates button in the app. You can only do this every few hours, so we don't waste bandwidth.
